Brembo aluminium brake caliper from the 2018 Racing Point RP18 F1 Car, as driven by Sérgio Perez and Esteban Ocon, with temperature strips still attached.
A brake caliper on an F1 car is a high-performance hydraulic clamp that houses the brake pads. When the brake pedal is pressed, it forces hydraulic fluid into the caliper, which pushes pistons to clamp the brake pads against the carbon fibre disc.
